Wozniak update on GLWA water main break, boil water advisory

LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Doug Wozniak on Monday provided Macomb County residents with an update on the state and local response to the recent Great Lakes Water Authority water main break that is affecting customers in multiple counties.

“The unexpected GLWA water main break last week continues to impact 133,000 residents, including those in Shelby, Bruce and Washington townships, where a boil water advisory remains in effect,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “I have been in contact with county and local officials, monitoring the situation and keeping a pulse on the recovery efforts. In addition to the work that is underway to repair the water main, the most immediate concern is to provide residents with bottled water. A state of emergency declaration from the governor has made additional state resources available, and I have been assured by Macomb County Emergency Operation Center and local government officials that coordination for bottled water distribution is underway and that more information for residents will be available later today.

“While this has certainly been an inconvenience for Macomb County families — including my own — we are fortunate that it was not worse. I am encouraged by the timeliness of the response from both the GLWA and Macomb County and of the hard work and dedication of the professionals who are working around the clock to address the situation. I will continue to be in contact with local, county and state officials relative to the situation, and I encourage residents to contact my office with any questions or concerns about emergency drinking water distribution and progress in restoring normal water service.”

Wozniak also encouraged residents seeking more detailed information about the recovery efforts to monitor the GLWA website at GLWater.org and the Macomb County Emergency Operations Center at OEMC.Macombgov.org.
